Since Internet Technology developed rapidly, the convenience and popularity of public use internet has been enhanced. Meanwhile internet technology also has impact on individual's cognitive learning, physical and mental development, besides it leads to other social issues which related to internet crime. According to the survey conducted by Department of Psychology, Asia University and Institute of Behavioral Sciences, National Cheng Kung University, 10% to 15% of adolescents and university students confronted serious problem of internet use. Besides they also facing certain social issues such as deviant behavior, physical and mental health problems. Thus, the phenomenon and consequences of internet addiction became the main issues which need more attention from government, academia as well as non-government organization. More other factors such as biological - psychological, social - culture etc. need to be considered and find out the prevention strategies instantly. However, there are no much of relevant empirical research and practical experiences, we still need to involve more resources and systematic plan to guide the development of research, personnel training and tertiary prevention of services, to enhance the positive benefits of Internet technology instead of the negative effects.

Due to the increases of problematic use of Internet addiction among teenagers and college students, we established in July, 2012 the Center for Prevention and Treatment of Internet Addiction, the first center of its kind in Taiwan universities.  The center led by Prof. Huei-Chen Ko, a renowned psychologist, is dedicated to solving the new emerging behavioral and social problems through evidence-based research, professional training, tertiary prevention services, social advocacy and international collaboration.
