Background: Since technology of internet has been developed and widely used all over the world, internet has become one of the necessary technique for everyone. More and more attention has been drawn to the impact of cyber overuse or internet addiction on cognitive  function and sleep quality. Attention deficit has been reported in participants who have internet addiction; however, the results were inconsistent and using different diagram might cause different results.

Methods: Based on the diagnostic criteria for addiction in DSM-5, a screening assessment was conducted to survey the prevalence of possible internet addiction from one junior high school. After screening, the students who had high risk of being internet addiction were asked to fill in a consent form for the following task and questionnaire of sleep questionnaire.

Results: Totally 28 students were screened as high risk of internet addiction, and 14 students (5 females and 9 males) completed the attention network test (ANT) and Pittsburg Sleep Questionnaire. The alerting network and orientation network was found to be related to sleep efficiency, respectively( =-0.54, p=.04; =.65, p=.01).

Conclusions: Sleep efficiency could be affected due to overtime and long term use of internet, and possibly be associated with attention, especially in alerting and orienting networks. Larger sample is needed to confirm this finding and comorbidity with ADHD has been reported in participants with internet addiction and could possibly affect the results and needs further investigation.

Key words: attention network, internet addiction, sleep efficiency
